Every year around this time, my thoughts turn to the late artist Carolyn Hall Young. Those of you who’ve been reading this stack from the beginning may recognize her name. Carolyn was not just a beloved life-long friend but a kind of soul mentor to me and many, many others. She understood the thrill of creativity before she even realized she was an artist. Her kindness was instinctive, her passion intuitive. And she fervently, ferociously, believed that creative generosity lives within everyone — and has the power to transform society for the better.
Carolyn’s personal motto was, Love wins. She didn’t coin that phrase, but she believed it with every cell in her determined little body. She lived it. And she shared it effusively, indiscriminately, wildly. It infused her paintings and graphic designs. It strengthened her physical being to endure three decades with advanced-stage cancer.
