Hello Loreates,
This post begins what I hope will be a weekly practice of pairing one of my photopaintings with a poem for you.
The metaphor for this image is Luminary, in tribute to Pope Francis, a great and beloved luminary who died this morning, Easter Monday, after 88 years on this earthly planet. He will be missed and mourned in ways too numerous to count, by members of every faith who care for kindness, compassion, and humanity.
Wishing you peace and strength today and every day.
Aimee
Praying
by Mary Oliver
It doesn't have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch
a few words together and don't try
to make them elaborate, this isn't
a contest but the doorway
into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.

This post is a gift
Pope Francis made such an impact, and your pairing of your Iris photopainting with the Mary Oliver poem is a beautiful testament. I love that line “This isn’t a contest but the doorway into thanks.” And I love the texture of Irises.
