I’m never sure about cross-posting stories between Medium and Substack. I love both platforms for different reasons AND I really do not want to bombard you with unwanted emails. But this time, a question from MFA Lore subscriber Marcy Kelly has tipped the scales. Marcy wrote:
Can you share how, without previous experience, you managed at such a young age to get your first book published?
It happens that Medium’s Human Parts publication just posted the answer to that question yesterday, so I thought maybe those of you who are not on Medium might like to read it here.
This will be particularly germane to those of you writing memoirs and struggling with the question of whether you have the “right” to upset friends and family by telling your own story.
